Classified Challenger 2 Documents Posted by Gamer

July 16, 2021

I know many of my viewers/readers play the game War Thunder online and this story relates to that. For those that do not play the game, War Thunder is a combat vehicle simulator.

It seems one player was not happy about the accuracy of the modelling on the Challenger 2 MBT which is the British Army’s current tank. He claimed to be an actual Challenger 2 commander in the army and thought the abilities of the tank is to be inaccurately portrayed.

To improve this, he posted excerpts from the Challenger 2 Army Equipment Support Publication on a War Thunder forum. This is sort of like a user’s manual for the vehicle.

The problem is this is classified information.

Gaijin, the game’s maker, got twitchy about the content and checked with the British MOD. They in turn made it plain that the material was not declassified and will likely rain down hell on the original poster and any British citizen retaining or forwarding this material.

Gaijin has now removed the excerpts and is strongly advising that people do not share them online. This is because they put both themselves, and Gaijin representatives, at risk of being prosecuted should they ever be in the UK.

So remember folks, should your simulator not do a good job of accurately portraying your favorite vehicle…DON’T PUT CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS ONLINE!
